The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Against the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, making him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
